Simply Made Sunday: Home Is Where The Heart Is
Welcome to Emily’s Simply Made Series! Each post features a craft that looks cute or is practical but is easy enough for even the uncraftiest of people. Cute DIY things are NOT just for the pros! You can do it too!
I have lived in many homes. All over the country.
When I was little, we lived on the east coast in New Jersy, then Pennsylvania. We then moved to the west coast and I have sputtered around the Northern California area for a while now with a brief stint in Minnesota in between.
Now? I’m in Northern California.
But one thing stayed consistent. My home was always where my family was. Didn’t matter where we were, I had family.
I love the saying that “Home Is Where The Heart Is” My family is my heart, and wherever we are together is home.
Ok. enough with the sappy stuff, let’s make something cute!
You’ll need:
A patterned piece of scrapbook paper
A solid color piece of scrapbook paper (or printer paper)
A Red marker (or paint)
outline of your state **
Gluestick
Scissors
Picture Frame
** You are more than welcome to freehand, but I googled “California Free Clip Art” then saved the picture and opened it in word so that I could size it correctly. I wanted to put it into a 5X7 frame, so I sized it to fit that, then printed it.
First, cut out the outline of your state then trace it backwards on the back of your patterned scrapbook paper. If you cut the scrapbook paper down to 8.5″ then you can actually print the state (again, backwards) right onto the back of your paper if you know how to do that. It’s much less technical to just print, cut and trace though.
You also want to cut your solid colored paper to the size of your frame.
Cut the state out of the scrapbook paper. (mine was double sided…don’t get confused…)
Color a heart over the city you live (this doesn’t have to be accurate unless you want it to be. I just went “general vicinity”) in a red or pink marker
cover the back in glue
Stick it to the solid colored paper, centering it.
Frame it!
And there you have it. SUPER easy!
Try using an old map instead of the patterned scrapbook paper.
Or switch it up and use the patterned paper as the background and make your state solid.
You can make these as presents too!
Make one for a wedding gift with a heart over the wedding site
Make one for your parents/grandparents with an outline of the whole country with hearts over each of the kids/grandkids
Whatever you do and whoever you make it for, enjoy your family and love where you are!
We think imitation is the BEST form of flattery! If you make this or any of my Simply Made Sunday projects, come by and post a picture of it on our Facebook page! We want to see!
