The moment you come close to losing one of your cats, you realize that they are more than just your pet, they are a part of your family. We almost lost Brody when my oldest had just been born. She had been losing a lot of weight, not eating and hiding which is so unlike her. When we heard the words “your cat has a 50/50 chance of living,” a black cloud literally came over us and we knew we needed to do whatever we could to make her chances of surviving rise. I am happy to say that six years later, she is not only alive but someone that my kids can’t get enough of.
So what makes our cats a part of our family?
The endless amounts of love they show us, the way they purr when the kids lay on them, the way they snuggle up close to us when we are in bed, the way they need us, the way they “meow” at us when they want our attention, how they act as our pest control, how they enjoy family movie night as much as we do, the fact that they always make it into our family photos, and most importantly, the fact that none of us know what we would do without them. Those are the reasons that make our cats a part of our family. Simple enough.
