As the new year begins, many people make resolutions to shed some weight and live a healthier lifestyle—myself included. With all the food and drink options out there, sometimes it’s hard not to indulge in things that are high in calories. For me, I will be sticking to my resolution by making sure my cocktails are as low-calorie as possible without ruining the taste. Here are some of my favorite low-calorie drinks. Remember, always drink in moderation, even if they are low-calorie.

Ditch the sugar! Seriously, have you ever had a mojito without sugar? The only difference is the size your waistline will be if you continue to drink them with sugar. These drinks are delicious even without the added sugar.

Rum and Diet Coke:

Opt for Diet Coke rather than regular. Still the same classic drink we all know and love with only 65 calories!

A 4-oz. glass of bubbly is only 85 calories. That’s about 15 calories less than a 12-oz. bottle of light beer or a 4-oz. glass of wine—and let’s be honest: The average glass of wine is usually at least twice that size.

Instead of the traditional Cosmo, ask for raspberry-infused vodka with club soda, a splash of cranberry and a lime. I saw this on and thought it was genius!

Apple Martini:

If you are a martini lover, may I suggest ordering a sour-apple one? Made with 2 1/2 oz. sour mix and 3/4 oz. each vodka and sour apple liqueur, this yummy drink is only 160 calories.

Light Beer

There are a lot of great beers out there that don’t contain the high amount of calories they once did. Beers like Sam Adams Light, Michelob Ultra, Amstel Light, Natural Light, Miller Lite, Bud Lite and more. If you aren’t into the “light” beers, you’d be surprised to know that even Guinness— one of the darkest beers— contains less than 150 calories! Now I’ll drink to that!

I found an AMAZING app for my iPhone that has truly been life saving. If you have an iPhone, iPod or iPad, download the “Great Drink Nutrition Facts” app. It’s free and shows the number of calories in all of your favorite drinks, and how they rank against the rest.
