I usually have most of the ingredients on hand, but tend to run out of the seasoning packets fairly often. After seeing about a million recipes for homemade seasoning all over the internet, I decided to tweak a couple of them a bit to create one for my family.
The results were perfect! I’ll never go back to the packets again—and the best part is you can control the sodium and spiciness to suit your own tastes.
- 3 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 4 teaspoons cumin
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 3 teaspoons pepper
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- Mix all spices together in a small container with lid. Shake well to combine.
- To use with meat, add two tablespoons of seasoning with a half cup water to browned ground beef or turkey. Stir and simmer a few minutes until seasoning is soaked in.
