Being a parent is the ultimate adventure, isn’t it? Whether you’re off on an amazing family vacation, braving the monsters under the bed or fighting the viruses that plague your house before the next child succumbs, there’s not a day that goes by that isn’t some sort of adventure.
Being the mom of three boys, my adventure is mostly trying to avoid emergency room trips due to broken limbs or deep wounds. My boys are fearless. While that will be a positive trait in their futures, it’s the main source of anxiety for me currently. I love taking my boys on adventures out in the world and letting them explore all that we can possibly see, but when we get the chance to have an adventure that doesn’t include any chance of injury I can rest easy and we can have a great time too!
We have been enjoying a little screen time lately thanks to the high heat waves of the summer, and choosing a Netflix show that is full of adventure around every corner is important to my curious boys. We are huge fans of the How To Train Your Dragon movies, and the new Netflix series Dragons: Race To The Edge is the perfect way to get adventure in shorter 30 minute spurts!
In Dragons: Race to the Edge, Hiccup and Toothless are soaring beyond their home on the island of Berk in search of new dragons, and we are introduces to some of the most exciting dragons yet, each with its own amazing abilities. With the magical Dragon Eye, an artifact Hiccup finds aboard an abandoned ship, Hiccup learns there is more outside the confines of Berk, and that a little curiosity and determination can make every day an exciting journey.
My oldest son has been loving the new show, thanks to the map making that Hiccup undertakes as he finds new places on his adventurous journey. My son is almost 6 and loves any map he can find. We find adventure in maps anywhere we can- from hiking trails to road trips and even at the mall. He can help navigate to the places we want to go, and he loves to be able to pick out new spots (or toy stores) to check out as well! It’s always a fun adventure when we let him take the lead!
What kind of adventures do your dragon lovers enjoy?
Make sure to tune in and check out Dragons: Race to the Edge, now available to stream on Netflix!
