I have three boys who all have very different personalities and sharing mom & dad’s time takes a toll on them. They all enjoy different things and while we spend a lot of time as a family, oftentimes it’s hard to please everyone.  We take the time to spend one on one time with each of our boys here and there just to give them the time to be themselves without the influence of siblings.

Sometimes our one on one time is a simple walk around the block or a trip to the store, but recently I took my oldest son Miles for his very first one on one TRIP!

I had an event to attend in Southern California that was family friendly and wanted my son to come along. We would be camping out with families affected by childhood cancer and I saw the benefit of including my son on that special trip. We talked about what we would want to see and do while we were there and Miles’s list included the Hollywood sign and Chris Pratt’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy fans in the house).

He was so excited about spending time with JUST mom, no brothers…but what he didn’t know was that I had more up my sleeve! IMG_0156

When we arrived at LAX, we picked up our 2018 Kia Cadenza to use for the weekend and right away Miles expressed his awe for the car.

“MOM! There’s heaters in my seat!”
“Can you open that huge roof window all the way?!”
“Let’s blast the radio!”

I was just thankful for the air conditioning on one of the hottest weekends in LA…

Right away, we plugged in the Hollywood Walk of Fame into my phone’s map and connected to the car’s Apple Car Play. Apple Car Play is one of my favorite features, integrating my phone right into the car’s media system!

Once we made it to the Walk of Fame, we walked for about 15 minutes before my son spotted the star he’d been looking for:IMG_0161

We walked around a little more before hopping into the Cadenza to keep going with our adventure, this time to the Rose Bowl!

We attended our event, Campout at the RoseBowl where we made lifelong friends and memories

Camping at the RoseBowlWhen we woke up the next morning, Miles was elated to see that our destination on the map was DISNEYLAND! He had never been before and was beside himself to get to go on any ride he wanted…the day was all about him.Simply Real Moms at Disneyland IMG_0216 SimplyRealMoms at Carsland We ate all the food we wanted, rode only the rides he wanted to and closed down both parks without the worry of cranky toddlers. We slept in the next morning and when we woke up, we set the map destination in our Cadenza to the iconic Mulholland Drive. Miles had no idea why we were headed that way but I wanted to make sure that his Southern California check list was all checked off and we were NOT disappointed. We drove up into the hills on the windy road, oohing and ahhing at the homes we saw all around us IMG_9869The Cadenza took the turns like a champ and made the drive even more enjoyable with the sunroof open and the windows down.

We parked at a vista spot and Miles gasped at the view of Downtown from where we wereIMG_9846It was impressive to say the least!

I walked him a little further up the hill and as we turned he saw why we came to that spot:IMG_9850An unobstructed view of the Hollywood Sign! “It’s everything I wanted to see, Mom!”

Yes, we were doing all they touristy things but that’s what Miles wanted for his time with Mom and I was willing to deliver. We were able to easily and comfortably maneuver through the sometimes confusing maze of Southern California roads and traffic that are overwhelming to visitors thanks to our Cadenza. I loved always knowing what the current speed limit was thanks to the amazing “Heads Up” display on the windsheildKia Cadenza Heads Up Display We stayed cool on one of the hottest weekends we’ve encountered in a while thanks to the amazing climate control air conditioning and we made memories singing at the top of our lungs to all of our favorite songs on the radio.IMG_9865

As we pulled back up to LAX and checked our bags in, Miles hugged me and told me that our weekend together had been so special and that he would never forget it.

Neither will I.

Making memories with Miles one on one is so special and I am very much looking forward to these kinds of trips with his younger brothers one day soon.
