Celebrate the holiday season in style at the legendary Westin St. Francis in San Francisco. Located directly on Union Square and across the street from the Safeway Holiday Ice Rink, there is no better place to get into the holiday spirit. Elegant decorations, a magnificent 12-foot sugar castle, festive holiday packages and a relaxing spa special make it a truly grand getaway. Opened more than a century ago on March 21, 1904, The Westin St. Francis still maintains its preeminence as San Francisco’s center of social, theatrical and business life. Renowned for luxury accommodations and excellent service, The Westin St. Francis continues to preserve its rich history and elegance while enhancing the guest experience with fresh, innovative concepts. The only hotel located on San Francisco’s famous Union Square, The Westin St. Francis is just steps from world class shopping, dining, theaters and art galleries.
My family had the pleasure of visiting the St. Francis for a getaway weekend, and we were blown away by the gorgeous holiday decor, the regal rooms and the perfect location for a holiday getaway!
From the minute we walked in through the massive revolving doors to check in, we were greeted with the sounds and sights of Christmas. Lights, trees and ornaments were set up everywhere we looked, and my son was overjoyed with all the fun Christmas decor. But what captured his attention the entire trip (and we heard of nothing else) was the giant sugar castle! One of the country’s largest sugar castles, to be exact! Created by Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Francois Houdré and his team, it’s located in the Landmark Lobby. Originally created in 2005, this magnificent castle grows more spectacular each year. Since then, it has become a holiday tradition for many families to visit the hotel during the holidays to see this evolving magical palace. Resembling a French château, it weighs over 1300 pounds and features more than 20 grand circular towers, approximately 30 rooms, glowing windows and a running train. New this year is the addition of the top “2012 newsmakers” on display throughout the castle. Spectators will enjoy locating and identifying these life-like elf replicas of politicians, celebrities, athletes and well known personalities. My son LOVED seeing Spiderman on the castle! This beautiful display is open to the public and will be up November 21 – January 2.
We were greeted at check-in with chocolates (YUM!) and Miles, my three-year-old son was given a kids welcome package, filled with games, coloring book/crayons and even a fun safari hat! He thought it was pretty cool to get his own backpack.
Our room overlooked Union Square, decorated to the nines, and my son couldn’t contain himself! Not only are there huge Christmas trees and lights all over the lobby and hotel, they were outside his window as well! Once we were settled in, we ventured out into a very rainy Union Square to see the sights and enjoy a meal. We loved that we had everything we could possibly want at our fingertips! Shopping, dining, and the Safeway Ice Skating Rink are all musts this holiday season.
The beds? They are Heavenly. No, really. They are Heavenly beds, the Westin’s trademark bedding. It was luxury sleeping at it’s finest. Soft and cozy all night, just what we needed after a long, rainy day of fun!
If you are in the market for the perfect holiday getaway in San Francisco, staying at the St. Francis is a must. With the decor, the views, and the unbeatable location your family will enjoy the holidays San Francisco style in the best way possible!
