A couple years ago, my husband and I took a trip to Europe to visit friends in Munich. One night, we were invited to a dinner party where, for the first time since I had set foot in Germany, I was offered something other than beer to drink!
It’s kind of a sin to not drink beer in Germany, so I did, but I’ll be honest, I much prefer a good cocktail!
And while I was in Munich, I was introduced to my very favorite cocktail ever: The Aperol Spritz. Our dinner party hosts noticed I wasn’t a huge fan of beer and claimed they had just the thing for me. Three or four Aperol Spritzs later, I couldn’t have agreed more. This cocktail is popular in northern Italy, but can be found throughout Europe.
Aperol is a bittersweet liquor that pairs well with the fizziness of Prosecco (similar to champagne) and the sweetness of an orange. If you can’t find Aperol, Campari is a good substitute.
This is a wonderful summertime sipper (or guzzler, if you’re like me!).
The best part is, they are easy to make:
- 3 parts Prosecco
- 2 parts Aperol
- 1 splash of soda or seltzer
- half a slice of orange
1. Fill glass with desired amount of ice. Pour Prosecco and Aperol over ice, add splash of seltzer water.
2. Garnish side of glass with orange or float orange directly on top of drink.
