If you are looking for the best deal site out there, this one takes the cake. Not only are the items free but it helps in the reduction of waste going into the landfills. Confused yet? I’m talking about an awesome website called Freecycle.org where people recycle their unwanted items to other people.
Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community
Members of Freecycle post items they would like to recycle to other people or ask neighbors for items they need. Have some extra diapers laying around that your child outgrew? Or maybe an old beat up dresser? Before shipping it off to the dumps post it in Freecycle. You never know if one of your neighbors is in need of that item. Or maybe you are in need of a baby gate? Post it in your group. There may be someone out there who has one laying around in their garage.
“Freecycle is a grassroots movement to connect people who want to swap things they no longer need… you never know what you will be able to find- or be able to get rid of.” Parade Magazine
I get emails sent to me throughout the day and night. It is all from people who live in the same area as me. You’d be suprised at what people have to offer. I’ve seen strollers, cribs, bikes, baby clothes, entertainment centers, desks, potting soil, firewood. I mean the list goes on. We picked up an awesome bed frame for my son. Someone posted about a twin sized bed frame so I sent my husband over to their house to look at it. It was not only practically new, but it was from Ethan Allen. SCORE! Even if the item is not in the “best” condition, you can always turn that “Trash into Treasure.“ Our BBQ also broke just days before our son’s first birthday party and I couldn’t believe when I saw an email come through with someone offering a gas BBQ in great condition. It was a life saver, and not to mention a pocket book saver as well.
Freecycle organizes member groups according to geographical region. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers to help ensure that the group is running smoothly and you are not hit with any spam. You do have to join Freecycle’s network to be a part of this awesome movement, but membership is totally free. Depending on the group, the monitor for your area may have their privacy settings on high, so you may have to ask to join. Other’s you can just join as long as you live in their area.
Check out Freecycle.org today and see if your area is taking part! And remember….
