With Valentine’s literally right around the corner, I just have to share with you my absolute new favorite wines. If you have never had Franciscan Estate wine, you are missing out. They sent me two wines— 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2011 Chardonnay—which happen to be my favorite type of red and white wine. Both these wines are incredible and I definitely recommend them for Valentine’s Day!
2011 Franciscan Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay
This Chardonnay is very impressive to say the least. The inviting aromas of citrus, golden delicious apple, vanilla and subtle spice from the toasted oak draw you in. Delicate mineral and lemon-lime are hidden behind star jasmine and honeysuckle notes. It’s fresh, vibrant and complex with flavors of pear tart, apple and lemon. The finish is round, yet crisp, with a silky mouth-feel and hints of flinty mineral, vanilla cream, and honeydew melon lingering on the persistent finish.

This is a very creamy and delicious chardonnay. It also retails for under $20.
2010 Franciscan Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a wonderful blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 3% Syrah and 1% Malbec. Their 2010 Cabernet has complex and vibrant aromas of red plum, anise, cherry, violets and tobacco accentuated by notes of black currant, dried herbs, toasted oak and cocoa. Elegant and supple texture on the palate make the frame for generous flavors of sweet plum and dark cherry with notes of vanilla and mocha. Silky tannins and well-integrated structure tie together and linger in the finish.

This was such a smooth Cabernet Sauvignon. In fact, I loved it so much, I forgot to snap a photo of the bottle but managed to get one of myself enjoying it. If you are looking for a bottle of red for your Valentine’s night or any special night, make it the 2010 Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon!
I am planning a trip to their winery in the near future and will keep you updated on other wines I fall in love with. If you are in the Napa Valley in California, I highly recommend stopping by their winery for a tasting. Their address is: 1178 Galleron Rd St Helena, CA 94574.
