One of my favorite places in California is Carmel. It’s a small town, near Monterey, that is known for art, food, wine, dog-friendliness, and beautiful views of the ocean. Last year my husband and I vacationed for a weekend in Carmel for the first time and fell in love. We couldn’t wait to come back with the children and just last weekend, we had the chance.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Hofsas House again this year. The Hosfas House has to be one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed in. If you are looking for a huge chain hotel with modern amenities, this is not the hotel for you. But if you are looking for small-town charm, wonderful staff, perfect location, thought and detail put into every aspect of your stay, then the Hofsas House is for you. It is also extremely dog-friendly, so bring your 4 legged friend!

For the past 60 years, European hospitality has fueled Donna Hofsas’  Bavarian-inspired hotel, not to mention it’s spectacular location on the central coast.  The hotel is just minutes from Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur, It is also located just three blocks north of Ocean Avenue, eight blocks from the picturesque white sand Carmel beach and one block from a child-friendly City park.

When my husband and I stayed at the Hofsas House last year, we were put in a king suite with a kitchenette. This year, since we had the kids with us, we stayed in one of their 2-bedroom family suites. The 2-bedroom, 2- bathroom family suite was huge. By far the biggest suite I have stayed in with my family. There was so much room, that I wish we had brought our dog! When we walked into the room for the first time my kids immediately saw the gorgeous fireplace in the first room. The first room, which also doubled as the kids bedroom was featured with a wood burning fireplace, fridge, counter with a sink, two twin beds, and a long private balcony with an outside grill.

The second bedroom featured a king sized bed, long hallway, and our own private bathroom.

The first night we decided to walk a couple blocks to Ocean Avenue, which is the hot spot of Carmel. Per the Hofsas House recommendation, we found a great kid-friendly restaurant for dinner. We called it an early night since we had a big day planned the following day and we were tired from the drive to Carmel.

When we woke in the morning we headed down to the front lobby for some yummy pastries, fresh fruit, coffee and orange juice.

The pastries were a perfect start to our day, before heading into Monterey.

A great thing about Carmel is you are extremely close to Monterey. Monterey is known the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is a wonderful aquarium overlooking the ocean. We headed to the aquarium bright and early for a fun day of exploring penguins, sea otters, sharks, jelly fish and more!

After the aquarium we walked down the famous Cannery Row which led us to the picturesque ocean. It was a beautiful day in Monterey and perfect for some ocean play!

After wandering around Monterey for a while we headed to dinner at Tarpy’s Roadhouse.

This was our first time here and definitely won’t be the last. The food and service was phenomenal, and the restaurant was kid-friendly, which is always a must.

After eating we explored outside the restaurant for a bit. This restaurant is amazing and definitely a must for the summertime. Can’t wait to come back and eat outside!

We decided to skip dessert at Tarpy’s Roadhose because the kids wanted to make s’mores on the beach with the s’more package that the Hofsas House gave us. Can you blame them? When else can you just head to the beach for a night of bonfire, star gazing, and s’mores making, all with your loved ones? It was the perfect end to our wonderful weekend.
