There’s no better time than meal time to build family relationships and create memories. Many people think creating meal time memories happens at the dinner table, but it can start long before that! Read on for some great tips on how to create lifelong meal time memories with your family.
Sit down as a family weekly to plan meals together. Even if everyone doesn’t pick a main dish, make sure your children are chiming in with their favorite veggies and meats. Not only will this be a fun, bonding experience for your family, meal planning will also save you time and money.
I have a 12 year old daughter, and let me tell you, the last thing she wants to do is go to the grocery store together. Yet I drag her along with my toddler and I. Nine times out of ten, she’s glad she came and we get to spend more time together as a family. It may only be an hour or two a week, but shopping together is an easy way to spend more time together as a family.
Both of my children love to help out in the kitchen. My 12 year old likes to tweak recipes to make them her own while my toddler loves pouring and mixing ingredients. It’s a fun, sometime crazy, time in the kitchen at our house! An added bonus is that kids who are involved in cooking their food are more likely to eat it. So have your child chop up some veggies and encourage tasting while you’re all in the kitchen.
Make it a point to sit down as a family at least 3-4 times a week at the table to eat dinner. Put away all your electronic devices and simply enjoy each others company. Create family traditions such as holding hands before you eat and talking about what you’re thankful for or taking turns choosing a topic to talk about. Taking time out of your busy life with children to eat together will help create memories that last a forever.
