An anniversary is a momentous occasion for any couple. It marks another year you have spent together, and it deserves celebration. My husband and I have been married only 4 years, but in that time, we’ve sure had some memorable anniversaries!

Take our first anniversary. When we got married, we didn’t have much money left over for a big honeymoon and so we had planned to take a belated honeymoon on our first anniversary. What we didn’t plan on was getting pregnant 6 months into being married! So rather than spend that money on a lavish vacation, we started spending it on baby items. I was a little sad that my dreams of laying out on a beach with a frozen drink were gone, but I was ok with laying on the couch with a tub of ice cream instead. Little did I know, my amazing husband planned a mini vacation for us and surprised me with a 2 night little getaway complete with a pre-natal massage and all of our meals through room service so that I could relax and stay in my jammies all weekend…a pregnant momma’s dream come true! I’ve never been so surprised by my husband’s thoughtfulness, and I think it will go down in our books as the best anniversary present.

Not all anniversary presents are created equal though…
Like the present that my husband and I joke about. Well, mostly that I joke about. My husband knew that I was trying to expand my makeup collection, but that I was never willing to spend the money on it. He went out, did his research and decided he would go with a makeup store he passed in the mall. Now, if you look in the photo above, you’ll see that I keep my makeup very natural with very little craziness. So when I opened the box to find makeup from a company that is known for making VERY bright, funky makeup, I just about died. I knew he had taken the time and effort to get me expensive quality make-up, but those colors definitely didn’t scream my name. Whenever we go out now, I ask him if he’d like me to wear the hot pink or the turquoise eye shadow.
Anniversary presents can’t always be perfect, and neither are marriages. We all need to work a little to keep the love fresh and exciting.

Coming later this summer is a movie about just that. Sony Pictures Presents “Hope Springs”, a new comedy from the director of “The Devil Wears Prada” starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, and Steve Carell about a couple in a bit of a rut.

This movie would make the perfect date night for couples of all ages, and possibly a GREAT anniversary gift?
