Summertime is special and my family looks forward to it year after year. We love getting outside and playing, especially in the water! We spend most of our days at our community pool along with our neighbors, and love to sneak in water time outside of the pool any chance we can get.
It’s so fun to be out and playing in the pool or on a slip n slide, but we moms know it’s important to make sun protection a priority because the sun can cause sunburns and long term effects. Here’s a little info to keep your family safe from sun exposure when you’re out in the sun this summer:
Plan Ahead
Make sure you plan your activities well, and also know how long you will be out so that you can make sure to pack enough sunscreen and know how often you will need to re-apply.
No Excuses
Bring sunscreen to use for ALL outdoor activities! Even if you think you’ll be in the shade the whole time, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Re-apply, Re-apply, Re-apply!
You should be applying 1 ounce or 2 tablespoons of suscreen on everyone 30 minutes before going out. Reapply every 2 hours, immediately after swimming, and immediately after doing something to cause excessive sweating.
We all know our kids hate having sunscreen rubbed on them when all they want to do is get outside to play and splash in the pool, so make application fun! Sing songs, make funny noises and allow them to help rub it in to make sure they enjoy that time rather than dread it.
