If you’re looking for the best hot chocolate recipe to make for your family or for a fun holiday party, look no further! This is the kind of hot chocolate I imagine they serve on the Polar Express. It is the creamiest, most delicious cup of hot chocolate you’ll ever have!
Serve it on Christmas eve, or bring it in a thermos for some Christmas lights sight seeing. OR, do as we did, and serve it at an adult holiday party as a hot chocolate bar, complete with adult fixin’s like Kahluha, Bailey’s, peppermint schnapps and butterscotch schnapps! The butterscotch schnapps was my favorite mix-in, but so many at the party loved it with the peppermint schnapps.
- 8 cups milk
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Place all ingredients into a crock pot and cook on low for 2-3 hours, or until the chocolate chips are melted and the drink is smooth. If you want to make this on the stove top, place all ingredients into a large pot, and cook on medium low, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted.
You’ll absolutely want to serve this hot chocolate when you’re celebrating Christmas fun with your family with Polar Express Fun at Home Activities!
I don’t know if I’m the first to comment on this or if comments aren’t showing for some reason, but I wish I could have read some comments before making this just to know how many servings it would make. It did turn out very good though! For me, and I followed the recipe, it made a little less than 9 normal coffee mug servings. I had some trouble getting the chocolate chips to melt uniformly so next time I might use a double boiler to melt it and then add that to the heated milk & cream.
This recipe sounds absolutely delicious. I am going to make this for my family Christmas party, but it doesn’t say what size chocolate chips to use: 6 oz or 12 oz bag?
Good Question!! The 12oz Bag is what I used!
