When I hear seven passenger vehicle my mind automatically thinks minivan, who’s doesn’t? It used to be the case where this was the only full size vehicle option available for larger families. Recently I was given the 2015 Mazda CX-9 so that our family could zoom-zoom our way to Disneyland for the yearly Holiday Blogger Event in style. This fancy styled crossover has three rows and seats seven, which was more than enough room to accommodate our family of four. While considered a full –size crossover SUV, the spacious interior far surpasses my expectations while adding sporty characteristics making this a game changer.

First look at the 2015 Mazda CX-9 and all I could think is this is one stunning ride! The Titanium Flash Mica really pops in the light and definitely stands out. The four-door hatchback is a little different than what I am used to driving but after traveling in this SUV I am impressed and it was very enjoyable to drive.

When viewing the SUV from the outside you would have no idea how much cargo space you really have inside until you open up the doors. The third row folds down which provided plenty of extra room for all our travel necessities. Any parent that has taken a road trip knows how over packing is required. I didn’t realize until I was a parent how much more room I would need in my car to carry strollers, clothing, toys and all the extra items we would also be returning with as well.

We were pleasantly surprised by how great the gas mileage was for an SUV of this size. With a vehicle this large I expected to have filled up several times more than we actually had to.

Once inside we immediately noticed the upscale sand color leather interior. It is very sleek and modernly designed. The driver’s seat has an 8 way adjustable option. We really liked this feature because when switching drivers throughout the trip it is nice to be able to adjust the seat settings easy to each person’s preferences. If you are a person that enjoys the high seating position, you will really like this.

The interior is also equipped with heated power front leather seats, and I am a huge fan of heated seats, especially if I am going to be in the car for a long period of time. The 3-zone climate control is perfect for managing the temperature at all times. When we left it was very cold out and raining for our road trip, but as we reached closer to our destination it was sunny and warm , this is great to have.

There is a tremendous amount of room in the second row which allowed my children to remain very comfortable for the 8 hour drive they endured to and from our destination. Both of them had room for their cups, toys, movies and games all in the back see with plenty of extra room to spare.

There were a few extra features that we found helpful. One was the front console which was very deep for storage. Each of the doors have large sized pockets as well. This is not a deal breaker for us but the extra storage is nice to have. I always keep a phone charger in my vehicle as well just in case of an emergency. I was happy to see this is standard.

The cup holders are very large and they are deep. I cannot tell you how many times I have spilled my coffee while driving because my cup barely fits into the cars holders. Simple things like this really make a difference for me.

Sunglasses holder and controls for the sunroof. We absolutely loved the sunroof and simple touch of the controls to access this. We started our trip off with rainy weather and the children really enjoyed being able to watch the rain fall above them.

We were also able to enjoy the sunroof on our way home as well as the sky cleared.

If you have not had the chance to listen to Satellite Radio it is great, and even better when listening on Bose speakers! The Mazda CX-9 rocks out with 11 equipped speakers throughout the SUV. Having the Satellite Radio option was so awesome and allowed our children to listen to the Disney Songs the entire way during our trip to Disneyland. On a standard radio the stations would cut in and out but we had no problems at all during our entire travel with Sirius.

The Mazda CX-9 is loaded with a 5.8” color touch screen in dash navigation system. We really found the full color helpful to read when driving. We also were able to connect our Bluetooth for hands free connectivity in just seconds.

The only problems we ran into with the navigation is that the voice activation could not clearly hear our request even after several attempts. We also could not find an option to change route while driving. I understand for safety reasons why they would not allow this, but when having a passenger in the vehicle I wish that we would have had this option. From what we noticed the car had to be in park in order to alter the destination in anyway.

We found so many really great safety features including the blind Spot detection system and rear cross traffic alerts. Technology has advanced so much over the years and Mazda is taking full advantage by adding the most up to date features as a standard on the Touring and Grand Touring models. The blind spot mirror allows you to view any objects that falls in the drivers blind spot view. This is not something I was worried about until I became a parent. Safety is so important to me as I am sure it is to all parents and making sure I have everything to help me with this when driving is invaluable.

27 (1 of 1)I am also a huge fan of the large Rear view backup camera. This is a feature that once you have you cannot see yourself driving without. I consider myself an excellent driver and have never been in an accident but now that I have two children I find our car rides are more packed than ever, especially when we go on trips.  Having a backup camera is a practical solution to not having the best vision when driving.

The front windows have the one-touch down/up feature and Speed-sensing auto door locks.Very important for parents to have this because it is so easy to get distracted when juggling many things at once that locking the doors can easily slip your mind. Child-safety rear door locks are also in place as well.

The  keyless entry and push-button ignition is very convenient to have and just makes life so much more simpler.

This family hauler is a 3.7-liter V-6  and delivers plenty of passing power that we definitely tested out on our drive. Even when picking up speed the SUV stays very smooth and comfortable.

If you are in the market for a sporty full sized SUV that offers an incredible amount of space without sacrificing any zoom I would definitely take the 2015 Mazda CX-9 for a test drive at your local dealership. Make sure you bring the whole family so everyone can enjoy!
