Last month I had the privilege of heading down to Southern California to test drive the beautiful, all-new 2016 Fiat 500X. I’ve had a love for Fiat since I was a little girl… after all, it was the first car my parents ever owned. The 2016 500X is everything you would expect from Fiat, just a little more muscular. This crossover combines iconic Italian style with functionality, performance and all-wheel-drive confidence.
The 2016 500X left us impressed and wanting to drive more. It was everything we hoped it would be, all packaged up in a stylish vehicle full of personality.
Here are 10 reasons to love the 2016 Fiat 500X:
1. Italian Charm and Standout Design
Throughout the years Fiat has managed to capture a unique design that continues to be an iconic piece of the Fiat puzzle. One walk around the 500X and you’ll notice smooth silhouette curves, a rounded clamshell hood, chrome door handles, double headlamps, trapezoidal nose and Fiat’s signature whiskers and logo” face” on the front end.
2. Beautiful Interior Design
The Fiat 500X’s purposeful and distinct Italian design carries through to the interior, with classic Cinquecento elements such as a body-color instrument panel, circular cluster display and iconic door handles.
With seven interior environments available, you can customize your Fiat to your liking. However, if it were up to us, we would recommend the premium leather. We drove for several hours in the 500X and these seats were extremely comfortable and soft to the touch!
3. Spacious Interior
The 500X may look compact but you’ll be happy to know the interior is actually quite spacious. From the driver and front passenger seats to the rear passenger seats, I sat comfortably and with ample leg room. For parents worried about car seat space, you can easily install two car seats in the back.
Storage is everything, especially to moms, and the 500X provides unmatched utility, featuring a large rear cargo area with a height-adjustable rear cargo floor, second-row 60/40 split seats and fold-forward front passenger seat. Clever storage adds to the functionality of the 500X, including a dual glove box with a locking lower portion, center console storage and a bin at the base of the center stack that allows for storage and connectivity.
4. Hidden Rear Camera
Sometimes it’s the small things that matter the most. I love how Fiat designed the rear of their vehicle to cover the backup camera, making it difficult to get the camera dirty and fogged up. This makes a huge difference for both safety and functionality.
5. Dynamic Selector System
The Fiat Dynamic Selector system offers three customized modes for optimal driving performance. The driver can select the most suitable vehicle configuration for different driving conditions:
- Auto: The basic mode calibrated for everyday driving and designed to ensure optimal fuel efficiency, low emissions and driving comfort. This is achieved with a smoother engine calibration, higher servo assistance on steering and a shift point optimized for low carbon dioxide emissions.
- Sport: The engine calibration converts for a sportier feel and is tuned for a faster driving response through electronic stability control and steering calibrations. With all-wheel drive, this mode optimizes the transmission for lateral dynamics.
- Traction +: A specifically calibrated mode maximizes low-speed traction with low friction and off-road surfaces by providing additional wheel slip through specially tuned chassis controls and a more direct engine response.
As the first Fiat vehicle available with all-wheel drive, the Fiat 500X delivers performance, fuel economy and capability through thoughtfully engineered systems and components. With its advanced drive systems, available push-button and remote start, and exceptional handling and fuel economy, the Fiat 500X raises the bar in the small crossover segment.
The all-new 2016 Fiat 500X offers advanced technology features once limited to premium vehicles. The 500X includes a standard monochrome and available color 3.5-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) cluster display, which allows drivers to customize and monitor information like fuel economy, outside temperature and driving range.
If music is your thing, Fiat offers an available BeatsAudio premium sound system perfect for listening to your favorite tunes while on the road.
8. Engineered and Executed for Safety
Safety is everything and it is especially important to parents who are traveling with precious cargo in tow. The 2016 Fiat 500X comes standard with 7 airbags and has an array of other safety features made available. These available safety features include: Lane Departure Warning Plus, Forward Collision Warning Mitigation technology, including brake control, Blind Spot Assist with Rear Cross Path Detection, Rear Park Assist and Rear Camera Park View system with active grid lines. While these are available for an extra cost, we happen to think they are definitely worth it and thanks to Fiat they are made affordable.
9. Variety of Exterior Colors
With 12 different exterior colors— Yes, 12— there really is a color choice for everyone!
Available exterior paint choices include: Nero Cinema (Black Clear Coat), Blu Venezia (Blue Metallic), Verde Toscana (Green Metallic), Bronzo Magnetico Opaco (Matte Bronze), Bronzo Magnetico (Bronze Metallic), Giallo Amalfi Tristrato (Tricoat Yellow), Grigio Arte (Gray Clear Coat), Grigio Argento (Gray Metallic), Arancio (Orange), Rosso Passione (Red Hypnotique Clear Coat), Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat) and Rosso Amore (Tricoat Red).
10. Affordable Trim Levels :
One of the many reasons I love Fiat is that their beautiful vehicles are affordable and with the 500X this couldn’t be more true. The 2016 500X is available in 5 different trim levels, starting at just $20,000.
Trim levels include:
- Pop, starting at $20,000
- Easy, starting at $22,300
- Trekking, starting at $23,100
- Lounge, starting at $24,850
- Trekking Plus, starting at $27,100
As you can tell there are many reasons to love the 2016 Fiat 500X, these are just a few. It’s affordable, stylish and full of adventure. The only thing I would change in the 500X is the location of the speedometer. With it being located on the far left of the instrument panel, the sun’s glare really made it difficult for me to see the speed I was driving. I would recommend Fiat changing the glass material used or angling it differently.
