Healthy and Easy Energy Balls
I’ve been making these energy balls for the last several years. It’s been trial and error to find the perfect ingredients to go into these magical snacks. Not only are these energy balls packed with some great, healthy ingredients, but they are the guilt-free snack you’ll find yourself craving. Best part? They make wonderful snacks for the kids’ lunches as well.
These energy balls require no baking (woohoo!) and only call for a handful of ingredients. They take little time to make so can get to enjoying your treat shortly after. While there are several recipes out there, these ones are a favorite in my house, with my kids asking for more!
What you’ll need
Creamy Almond Butter – you can use crunchy, but I feel like it’s a little drier than the creamy almond butters. I also opt for almond butter that contains little-to-no sugar. The point of these energy balls is to have a healthy snack so why would you want one that contains a lot of sugar? Many grocery stores have several options, so look for one that has the least amount of sugar and my personal favorite, one that doesn’t require you to stir in the oil (I’m lazy… what can I say?).
Rolled Oats – This will serve as your base, so choose a good old-fashioned oat brand
Chocolate Chips – We prefer using dark chocolate, however, feel free to use any kind you like. Or, if you’re not a chocolate fan, you can easily substitute dried cranberries.
Honey – We are quite passionate about our honey and look to buy local as it can help with seasonal allergies. Honey is packed with a ton of health benefits and I love using it as the ‘glue’ to hold the energy balls together.
Ground Flaxseed – I don’t go a day without using flaxseed in something. It’s a great source of fiber, Omega-3, protein, and more. Adding this to the energy balls is a key secret ingredient. Kids won’t even know it’s there. My personal favorite is the Spectrum Ground Flaxseed with Mixed Berries. (not sponsored, just really love this brand).
Cinnamon – Cinnamon gives it that little extra touch of flavor that really does make a difference!
Healthy and Easy Energy Balls
Ingredients
- 2/3 C Creamy Almond Butter
- 3 tbsp Honey
- 1 C Rolled Oats
- 1/2 C Ground Flaxseeds
- 1/2 C chocolate chips
- 2 tsp Cinnamon
Instructions
- In a medium sized bowl, combine all the dry ingredients and stir. Add in the honey and peanut butter and mix well.
- Place in fridge for 10 minutes to lightly harden up the honey and almond butter. Don't try and create the balls until the items have been in the fridge for a bit of time.
- Take mix out of the fridge and start forming your balls. I usually do about the size of a tablespoon for each.
- Store in the fridge and enjoy!
