The holidays are such a special time and it is so much fun to watch your kids open gifts that they love. I don’t know about you but I get overwhelmed with the amount of toys my kids already have…then pile on the toy gifts from family and friends? It gets to be like a toy store in our home.
We always do a winter cleaning right before Christmas to find the toys in our home that the kids no longer want/need so that we can donate them to kids who do want them. This helps a little with the toy overload but I like to do my part too. The gifts we give my kids are as much “non-toy” or educational gifts as possible because they will be receiving toys from others. We give each of our kids a Lego set because I truly love them and they stimulate pretend play, math and motor skills. We also gift our kids experiences. My mom made the choice a few years ago to give our family a membership to a local zoo or museum and then each of the kids a small gift to open separately and it was an eye opener for us. We saw how much more our children got out of the membership than any of the toys they received and we have moved in that direction ourselves.
If you’re looking to give gifts that are fun without being toys, here are some of the great ideas we’ve come up with for non-toy gifts that the kids will love:
Martial Arts Class
State/National Parks Pass
Tinker Crate Subscription
Local Amusement/Theme Park
CLOTHES + ACCESSORIES
