Finding a restaurant that balances a quality meal and family friendly isn’t always easy, but it IS possible!
My sister and I were recently in Santa Monica for a work trip and decided to check out Daily Grill for dinner one night. Boy were we glad we did! Located only a few blocks from Santa Monica Blvd, this is a great restaurant to check out while in town because it’s far enough away from the beach that you aren’t dealing with outrageously priced parking or crowds. We went on a Friday night and it was busy and vibrant-a great place to meet up for drinks with friends or take your family (good amount of background noise cancels out kids’ craziness, right?!).
The first thing we loved about Daily Grill was that it was sophisticated enough for a lovely night out, yet had a laid back feel. Dress of those enjoying their meals ranged from casual to business.
We decided to start our evening with cocktails, I chose the Cucumber Mule and my sister went with a fun martini on special. Both were delicious and refreshing…I am a huge fan of Moscow Mules and the addition of muddled cucumber took it to a whole new level of tastiness! A definite must try when you’re there!
We LOVED our waitress. She was patient, made wonderful suggestions and had an extremely fun personality that made our experience that much better. She was willing to cater to requests, and I love when a restaurant will do that! I asked if we could have a Caprese Salad to begin with and even though it wasn’t on the menu, they brought one out for us to enjoy…and it was a perfectly light starter.
For our main meal, I had the Filet Mignon Simply Grilled, rather than with a Bleu Cheese crust, and my sister chose their huge Crab Cakes. The filet was cooked to a perfect medium, but in my opinion lacked in a little salt. I never add salt to my food at restaurants because I’m sensitive to overly salty food (thanks to a strict salt free diet as a kid) but felt like the filet needed it. It may have been because I ordered it Simply Grilled-not sure if that changes the way they season the meat. Once I sprinkled with salt it was perfect. My sister LOVED her crab cakes! Big lumps of fresh crab meat with a crispy crust made for a wonderful dinner for a midwest girl who can’t get fresh seafood too often!
We went for the full monty and had dessert as well, ordering the Daily Grill Fudge Brownie and the special of the day, Banana Creme Pie. Whoa. Talk about pure indulgence! The desserts were huge, perfectly proportioned for 2 or even 3 people-we definitely didn’t finish our two desserts!
We had a really wonderful time at Daily Grill in Santa Monica. Our only bad experience came thanks to my 6 month old deciding to ruin an entire outfit in one diaper filling…in the middle of dinner. I highly recommend this spot for dinner with your family, date night, or even meeting for drinks on Moms’ night out!
