Airports often stress me out. Whether I am flying with friends, family, or alone on a business trip, there is this unspoken edge people have while waiting around for their flight to arrive. I mean, who likes airports anyways? For the most part the chairs are uncomfortable, the outlet stations are crammed, the food is overpriced, and people are either walking way too slowly when you’re in a rush, or people are about running you over to make their flight when you have hours to spare.
American Express is trying to change the way we view airports and travel with our family, and I couldn’t be more impressed. The Centurion Lounge is one of American Express’s newest lounges inside the San Francisco International Airport. This is the fourth location in a network that’s expanding in major airports across the United Sates, but the first on the west coast.
American Express card members can enter the Centurion Lounge for $50 per person, but Platinum and Centurion members (and their children) can enter for free. So what’s included once you enter the lounge?
Once inside you are treated to pure comfort and luxury. On one side of the lounge are comfortable couches to relax on while charging your portable devices.
There’s a business area, which is perfect if you are on a business trip. Make phone calls in private, set up your laptop, enjoy high speed Wi-Fi, and more.
If traveling with your children, there is a family room complete with toys, books, movies, and an Xbox 360 for you kids to play! Seriously, how incredible is this? As parents you know the airport is especially boring to your child. Why not let them play and burn out before your flight?
On the other side of the Lounge is where you can grab a bite to eat or a drink.
The Centurion Lounge offers members a full bar with a list of signature cocktails created by renowned mixologist Jim Meehan.
There is also a unique wine tasting area powered by Wine Emotion that allows guests to sample different pours from Napa Valley, chosen by wine director Anthony Giglio.
If you and your family are in the mood for a bite to eat, you will be happy to know that the lounge features Napa Valley inspired, seasonal cuisines.
If you need to freshen up, the lounge also offers luxurious shower suites.
I can’t begin to tell you how I felt after leaving the lounge. I am always telling my husband how I wish a place like this existed when we are traveling with our children, and now it does! Kids can enjoy the play area, you and your spouse can enjoy a drink or two, and your whole family can eat a quality meal together without being rushed or sucked into eating a greasy, unhealthy meal.
The American Express Centurion Lounge has locations currently open in Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS), Dallas/ Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and now available at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) located inside Terminal 3.
