I love to travel to destinations I’ve never been before and really check out some fun local spots, ESPECIALLY with my kids! Finding family friendly vacation destinations that are out of the “norm” is fun and exciting!
A few weeks ago, my boys and I traveled to Mesa Arizona to check out the local family friendly activities and food they have to offer and we had a blast! We flew down thanks to Allegiant Air (We are giving away free roundtrip tickets right now, so head over HERE to enter!!).
We were shown around by the amazing ladies at Visit Mesa, and we had the best time enjoying all kinds of activities with our fellow bloggers and their kids! Make sure when you travel to Mesa (or even the Phoenix area…it’s worth a little drive!!) you find these awesome spots to take your family to!
While visiting Mesa, make sure to check out some of the best local eats available! We checked out some really great spots and you’ll want to make sure you go too!
Postino is a fun little wine bar but the eats are out of this world good and their kids menu is darling! This is the perfect spot to enjoy a brunch with your family or a little afternoon treat with wine. The atmosphere is inviting and modern and the service amazing! It’s nice and loud inside, so no worries bringing your kids because their voices will mix right in! You cant go wrong with their bruschetta board, because you can choose different kinds of bruschetta for your table to enjoy! My personal favorite not to be missed was the Tomato Jam and Sheeps Milk Cheese Bruschetta! A definite culinary win. For brunch, I enjoyed a mimosa and their Grilled Focaccia and some of the other favorites were the Country Toast and Smoked Salmon. The kids menu offers kids food they will also enjoy, and my son’s personal choice was the PB&J Bruschetta! It was adorable and well thought out to make a kids bruschetta choice! Fresh apple slices and grapes rounded out his meal well!
We found this local eatery by asking our hotel concierge for a great breakfast spot that was right in downtown and Downtown Rendezvous was the immediate answer. Located on the back of the Mesa City Plaza, this was a great place to have a delicious breakfast! A small little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, we were able to get my son pancakes (his favorite) and my guest and I both tried different breakfast burritos (we were told they were the best around!). WOW. These breakfast burritos were so reasonably priced and tasted so delicious! The house made salsa won us over too. Very fresh, mild and the perfect addition to our burritos! Breakfast is served until 10ish, and they’re open serving lunch until 2 or 3, depending on the day! Definitely worth checking out!
I always get excited about a restaurant that’s been featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives, so visiting Joe’s Farm Grill when we were at Agritopia was the perfect stop on our food tour of Mesa! We had a fun visit from Joe himself, giving us a brief history of his family’s farm (and that the restaurant used to be his family home!) before we got a walking tour and then ate. Be prepared to wait in line, we were there on a Monday at lunch time and it was packed! Some of the favorites were the Veggie Burger, which is 100% Vegan, down to the thousand island dressing the use, the onion rings (best I’ve had!) and I loved my smoked ribs plate! The garlic flatbread it comes with is scrumptious and addictive, and the ribs were absolutely tender and delicious! We ate outside on the patio, and there’s tons of outdoor seating, so bring your kids, you dog, strollers etc because it’s VERY family friendly!!
Sauce is a great place for a family dinner with its simple menu of Pizza, Pasta, Salads and Paninis, so you’re sure to find something for everyone! Our table shared a Rosemary Potato Pizza with no cheese for our vegan friends, and I enjoyed a HUGE side salad and a small bowl of pasta with meatballs. Everything was yummy, the Rosemary Potato Pizza wasn’t really my style but it tasted good! The rest of my table really enjoyed it though! My Pasta with Meatballs was a perfect finish to my day, the meatball was awesome! Moist, meaty and covered in sauce…just the way a meatball should be!
If you are thinking about driving out to get some delicious olive oil at Queen Creek Olive Mill and have an olive oil 101 class or a tasting, make sure it’s close to lunch because they have a fantastic menu for lunch! My son got their kids’ grilled cheese which I snuck a bite of and was hooked! If I wasn’t watching my dairy intake because of a fussing nursing baby I would have devoured that sandwich!! I loved my Lucca sandwich with turkey, apple slices and brie. Such a yummy flavor combination, and it came with gourmet potato chips that were perfection! Make sure you try their prickly pear lemonade while you’re there, and pick up some olive oil to take home too!
It doesn’t get much better than a great taco shop. Joyride Taco House is a great spot to take your kiddos for a great meal in the adorable downtown Gilbert. If your kids (or you) are particularly rowdy, eat outside where they have a huge lawn to run around!! Start off with their chips and salsas, and make sure to try their guac if thats your thing. YUM! Agua Frescas are a specialty here, so pick your desired flavor and even kick it up a notch with a little liquor. I tasted the Pineapple and Almond Horchata Agua Frescas and both were refreshing and sweet. Tacos are served a la carte unless you order three- then you can pick a side to go with them! I tasted the Crispy Fish Taco and Carnitas Taco and I was impressed with both, but the Carnitas took the win for best, in my opinion! The Veggie Taco was getting rave reviews at our table as well! Don’t miss out on the Mexican Street Corn. Do. Not. It was something I had never tasted before and boy am I now hooked. It was creamy, flavorful and downright delicious. We ended up ordering a second for the table because we ate the first so fast! (To be honest I probably could have finished one to myself…) The kids plates came out with fresh fruit and their choice of meal on a fun separated tray, and all seemed satisfied with their meals and the endless chips at our table.
Located next to Joe’s Farm Grill on the grounds of Agritopia, The Coffee Shop is the perfect stop for a bit of coffee on your day out and about! Imagine a SoHo chic cafe, with an amazing patio, surrounded by a rose garden, located in the middle of Gilbert, Arizona. That’s what The Coffee Shop is. Their bakery items are all handmade, their drinks are carefully made (and they have Almond Milk for all you non-dairy people!!) and it’s just an all around great coffee shop. Make sure you try their Cupcake Wars winning cupcakes while you’re in there…you will not be disapointed!
If you’re out shopping in the San Tan Village and your hot self is in need of a cool down, stop into Frost Gelato for some creamy fresh made Gelato or Sorbet! Made with the finest Italian ingredients and equipment, there’s no need to travel abroad for good authentic Gelato…
Simply Real Baby and I shared the Mango Sorbet (completely Dairy free!) and we both adored it! I had a hard time choosing a flavor, so make sure to taste everything and make your decision wisely!
