When your herb garden is in full bloom, it’s time to pull out all the stops. I put my herbs in everything, including bread. This recipe is a quick and easy complement to any Italian dish. You can make your own bread, but I usually run out of time and just buy an Italian loaf from the grocery store. I can prepare this bread in about 10 minutes; five minutes prep and five minutes in the oven!

This recipe is NOT an exact science; feel free to add more or less herbs to your preference. Just make sure each slice of bread is covered in plenty of this flavorful sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped basil
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped oregano
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped parsley
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:

Step 1. Slice bread 3/4 to the bottom of the loaf with each slice.

Step 2.  Melt butter and garlic in microwave (about 30 sec on high). Cover with a paper towel before melting.

Step 3.  Add finely chopped herbs to the butter mixture and mix well. Add Parmesan cheese.

Step 4.  With a butter knife, spread mixture down through each slice of bread. Cover each slice as evenly as possible.

Step 5.  Brush any remaining butter mixture on top of bread and bake at 350 degrees for five minutes.
