Ever look at a skinny person and wonder; how the heck do they do it? It always seems that losing weight always comes so naturally to thin people. So why is easy for some people to stay thin and then others struggle with it? Many people will say genetics, but I really think the key to staying slim is the result of healthy habits.

10 Tips to help you to keep your Waistline Slim:

Ditch the TV—Turn off the TV and get moving! The more sedentary hours you spend in front of a TV, the more likely you are to pack on the pounds.

Drink water—Skinny people tend to not drink their calories. High calorie drinks usually leave you feeling unsatisfied and craving more calories, which just leads to weight gain. In addition, not only does water help detox your body; it also helps your body burn fat more efficiently.

Weigh yourself often—People that weigh themselves often weigh less. You don’t have to obsess and weigh yourself everyday but it is important to know where your numbers are. Weighing yourself once a week can help keep you on track with your fitness goals.

Don’t eat in front of the TV or Computer—When you are in front of the TV or Computer, it is hard to pay attention to exactly how much you are eating. You may start off with intentions of eating just a few chips but before you know it, half the bag is gone. It is best to eat when you have few distractions so you can focus on and enjoy the food you are eating.

Rescue a Dog—On average, people that own a dog weigh less than people that don’t. Why? Because people that own pets are significantly happier and have lower stress levels than non-pet owners-both factors that have been shown to increase weight gain. Also people that own a dog exercise more; with owning a dog comes the added responsibility of having to walk your dog, which naturally adds more exercise into your daily routine.

Get enough sleep—Getting 7-8 hours of sleep at night is critical to your health. When you are sleep deprived you tend to eat more for that extra energy boost to get you through the day.

Eat breakfast—People that eat a nutritious breakfast every morning tend to be slimmer that those that done. Eating breakfast each morning helps to jump start your metabolism and regulate your blood sugar levels so you don’t over-eat later in the day.

Have plenty of Healthy Options Available—Be sure to pack your fridge and pantry with lots of healthy options and throw out the junk food so you won’t be tempted to reach for something unhealthy when hunger strikes. I have found it helpful to always have a basket of apples, pears and oranges on my counter so I see those first when looking for food.
