If you live with children home for summer vacation, I’m sure you’ve heard the words, “Mom, I’m bored!” come out of their mouths. Well, I have the cure for it! I have a friend who used to make her daughters run laps outside or do jumping jacks when they said they were bored (or when they argued or talked back—genius!). I thought that was an amazing idea and decided to take it a step further!

This is so easy–and might even help your house get a little bit cleaner! I simply gathered craft sticks and a sharpie to get started. On each stick, I wrote something to do. I wrote EVERYTHING! From cleaning activities, to physical activities to educational activities! Now, every time my daughter says she is bored, I make her pick a stick. I also use it if she is hiding out in her bedroom all day to get her busy. It is the perfect summer activity plan.

Here are some suggestions to write on the craft sticks:

  • Dust the living room and dining room
  • Make a card for grandparents
  • Do 25 jumping jacks
  • Wash the car
  • Empty the dishwasher
  • Vacuum the stairs/upstairs/downstairs
  • Draw with sidewalk chalk
  • Clean the bathroom
  • Empty all the garbage
  • Read for 30 minutes
  • Go for a walk (with your siblings!)
  • Wipe down all the sinks
  • Run five laps around the house
  • Read to your sibling
  • Mop the kitchen
  • Clean the litter boxes
  • Wipe down light switches
  • Wash the banister
  • Play a board game
  • Call grandma and granddad
  • Clean out the car
  • Fold and put away laundry
  • Wash the windows
  • Weed the garden
  • Do the dishes
  • Make cookies
  • Wash all the mirrors
